I Still Believe in Hand Written Notes
Thank you to basic invite for sponsoring this post.
It’s so easy today to send a quick text to thank a friend for a good time at brunch or to reach out in email when you have something longer than a text can contain or the message is more formal. Online invitation sites easily manage RSVP’s and direction information. Everyone knows I will try any new app with fun invite templates and message boards and that I habitually over-design any little get together with a graphic precursor of some sort. Not sorry. Not even a little bit. I’m design minded and love to use color and graphics to set a tone no matter how big or small the event. I regularly use my free account with Canva for all sorts of graphics and have yet to upgrade to a pro account. But one thing that I feel can never be replaced is the feeling of shuffling though your mail at the end of the day to find a hand written address on a envelope and quickly opening it to see what the sender has so thoughtfully written to you. Even if it’s just a simple “thank you for the thing you gave me” nothing beats that feeling. If anyone were to argue it compares to a well designed text graphic I will gladly take on that debate. It still reminds me, and makes me long for a time, when I would get my Mamaw’s birthday cards in the mail. And on that note (pun intended) when did we stop sending birthday cards in the mail? If not handed over in person at a party do they not exist anymore? We should resurrect that tradition ASAP, but I digress. Receiving a hand written card in the mail is simply sweet in the way that technology just can’t replicate.
And while receiving a note in the mail definitely makes you stop and connect with the sender, sitting down to write out your thoughts in a pretty little note card is a small luxury that makes you be with your thoughts and appreciate the recipient tangibly. I have always loved note cards and have a drawer full that I go to. I pick them up at fun boutiques and order them online when I find a good sale. I was recently introduced to Basic Invite and can’t say enough about their brand and how I feel like they somehow heard my silent design wishes. All of my font dreams have come true. I played around with a bunch of designs and finally ordered some samples.
They arrived quickly and the customer service was top notch. Not only did I open my samples in a beautiful professional portfolio (they also offer Truly Custom Sample Kits for your entire invitation suite!) the director of customer service reached out with an email just days later to see if I loved my samples and offer me a 20% discount code for my next order.
Beyond stationary of course they have so many other templates for business cards (I love the clear!), graduation, weddings, showers, and holiday cards. And right now, they are celebrating Christmas in July free envelope address printing, plus so many pretty holiday card options. I have browsed and favorited a ton already for my Christmas cards 2020! They also have so many Christmas party invitations it made me want to start planning.
Right now Basic Invite is offering 15% off any order with the code 15FF51. And for RMW readers this code will work through the end of August!
So here is a quick list of my favorite things about this company:
Fonts
I’ll start here. Listen carefully: You can change the font of every text box on the design. I feel like there should be trumpets playing in the background for this one. Hopefully there are others out there like me and if so please comment so I don’t feel so crazy. This is a dream come true.
Almost Unlimited Colors
So many color options with instant previews. Once you select a design, you can change the color of each element on the card. With over 180 colors to choose from, you can make sure the card is exactly how you want it. You can also choose a foil, as well as specify raised or flat. I’m telling you. This could (and has) occupied me for hours.
Custom Samples
Probably one of my favorite things they offer (and one of the few websites that has this option) is the option to order a printed sample of your actual invitation or stationary before you place your final order. In the design world, this is how it was always supposed to be. Thank you Basic Invite for getting the memo. You can see the paper quality and how it will print in real life and make sure the card is perfect. See. It is possible.
Colors of Envelopes
Over 40 different envelope colors to choose from so you can truly design your complete package. Even better, all of Basic Invite’s envelopes are peel and seal. Bonus.
Address Capturing Services
For invitations they offer an address capturing service that allows customers to share a link on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or any other social media to request their friends and family’s addresses. The addresses are stored in the customer’s account and can be selected during the design process. They also offer recipient address printing at no cost on all card orders. Such a time and sanity saver.
Thank you to Basic Invite for introducing your beautiful brand to me and to my pups, Ani and Phoebe, for their unsolicited help with the images for this post.
